Purpose

The Electrical / Structural Designer II will be a key member of the staff supporting ELECT, P.C.’s engineering department.  The Electrical / Structural Designer II will assist engineers in developing designs and technical drawings for a variety of projects.

Essential Duties

  • Using general direction from project managers and engineers, the successful candidate will be able to provide technical drafting and design services in support of electrical and structural engineering projects.  Typical designs will include:
    • Protection and control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, elementaries, and interconnection diagrams
    • Substation structures
    • Substation layouts, elevations, and details
    • Equipment foundations
    • Duct bank plan, profile, and sections
    • Manhole plans and elevations
    • Transmission line plan, profile, and details
    • Electrical equipment plans and elevations
    • Bills of materials
    • Ground grid plans and details
    • Conduit and cable trench plans and details
  • Organize and communicate the status of design tasks with project managers and engineers to allow for accurate project planning
  • Maintain drawing files per company-defined processes
  • Assemble drawing sets for issue to clients and contractors
  • Understand and adhere to company drawing standards and filing system

Qualifications  

  • Associates degree in CADD or Engineering Technology with 5+ years of experience
  • Experience in electric utility substation design
  • Familiarity with products typically used in utility substations and industrial medium voltage systems
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Experience with Revit or Civil 3D preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
  • Must pass random drug screening tests

Purpose:

ELECT, P.C. defines an Electrical Engineer I as a degreed electrical engineer who has not yet passed the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam.  The Electrical Engineer I will assist Electrical Project Engineers and Electrical Project Managers in various projects. Types of projects include substation design, electrical power system studies, and electrical testing activities.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop electrical one line, AC and DC elementary drawings for utility substations and industrial medium voltage systems with instruction from supervisor
  • Develop grounding drawings with instruction from supervisor
  • Develop electrical wiring diagrams with instruction from supervisor
  • Develop conduit and cable trench designs
  • Develop conduit and cable schedules
  • Perform electrical power systems studies tasks using engineering software packages under the direction of a P.E. (examples include: short circuit and protective coordination studies, arc flash incident energy analyses, and load flow studies)
  • Perform basic engineering calculations related to power systems analysis and design
  • Assist with electrical equipment testing activities (e.g., protective relay testing, LV/MV circuit breaker testing, transformer testing)
  • Assist with the development of protective device settings under the direction of a P.E.
  • Develop specifications for electrical power equipment including:
    • Power Transformers
    • HV and MV circuit breakers
    • Reclosers
    • Switches
    • Cables
  • Develop new testing procedures as directed by supervisor.
  • Work in a safe manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BSEE from an accredited ABET program
  • Successful completion of Engineering Fundamentals Examination
  • Understanding of three-phase electrical power
  • Understanding of electrical system protection concepts
  • Understanding of electrical machinery theory
  • Entry-level to four years of experience
  • Ability to use engineering software packages to perform power systems analyses
  • Ability to use AutoCAD
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean record
  • Must pass random drug screening tests

Minimum Educational Requirements: Electrical Project Engineers and Electrical Engineering Technicians are required to have obtained at least a BSEE from an accredited ABET program. All Electrical Testing Technicians must have at least an Associate’s Degree in an approved Electrical Engineering Technology program or Electrical Testing program. Experience in medium and high voltage equipment, testing, and analysis is a plus for all positions.
