Purpose:

The Electrical / Structural Designer will be a key member of the staff supporting ELECT, P.C.’s engineering department.  The Electrical / Structural Designer will assist engineers in developing designs and technical drawings for a variety of electrical projects.

Essential Duties:

  • Using general direction from project managers and engineers, the successful candidate will be able to provide technical drafting and design services in support of electrical and structural engineering products.  Typical drawings will include:
    • Relay and control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, elementaries, and interconnection diagrams
    • Substation layouts, elevations, and details
    • Duct bank and conduit details
    • Transmission line plan, profile, and details.
    • Bills of materials
    • Ground grid plans and details
  • Organize and communicate the status of design tasks with project managers and engineers to allow for accurate project planning
  • Maintain drawing files in per company-defined processes
  • Plot and assemble drawing sets for issue to clients and contractors
  • Understand and adhere to company drawing standards and filing system

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Associates degree in electrical/mechanical drafting or a relevant combination of education and experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD / Revit
  • Civil 3D knowledge a plus
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must work well independently and as part of a project team

Purpose:

To assist electrical project engineers and electrical project managers in various projects.  Types of projects include substation and transmission line design, electrical power system studies, and electrical testing activities.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop electrical one line, ac and dc elementary drawings with instruction from supervisor
  • Develop electrical wiring diagrams with instruction from supervisor
  • Perform electrical power systems studies using engineering software packages under the direction of a P.E.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations related to power systems analysis and design.
  • Assist with electrical equipment testing activities (e.g. protective relay testing, LV/MV circuit breaker testing, transformer testing)
  • Assist with the development of protective device settings under the direction of a P.E.
  • Develop new testing procedures as directed by supervisor.
  • Work in a safe manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSEE from accredited ABET program
  • GPA of 3.25 or better
  • Successful completion of Engineering Fundamentals Examination
  • Basic understanding of three-phase electrical power
  • Entry level to four years of experience
  • Ability to use engineering software packages to perform power systems analyses
  • Ability to use AutoCAD.
  • Must work cooperatively with others
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills
  • Must follow direction well
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Must pass random drug screening tests.

Purpose:

The Electrical Project Engineer will assist Electrical Project Managers in various projects. Types of projects will include substation design, electrical power system studies, and electrical testing activities. The Electrical Project Engineer will also assist Electrical Project Managers in directing the activities of Electrical Engineering Technicians.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform electrical power systems studies such as short circuit, load flow, and arc flash incident energy analyses using engineering software packages
  • Develop electrical one line, ac and dc elementary drawings per client specifications and job scope
  • Develop engineering specifications, drawings, and reports for electric utility substation design packages for review by project manager.
  • Develop electrical wiring diagrams for utility substation protection and control equipment per client specifications and scope of work
  • Review shop drawings to ensure conformance with plans and specifications
  • Perform complex engineering calculations related to power systems analysis and design.
  • Develop protective device settings in accordance with company policy, subject to review by project manager
  • Assist with electrical equipment testing activities (e.g. protective relay testing, LV/MV circuit breaker testing, transformer testing)
  • Make suggestions for improved company procedures and policies
  • Provide task level direction for electrical engineering technicians, drafters, and electrical designers
  • Work in a safe manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSEE from accredited ABET program
  • GPA of 3.25 or better
  • Successful completion of Engineering Principles and Practice Examination
  • Basic understanding of three-phase electrical power in high and medium voltage applications
  • Four to ten years of experience
  • Ability to use engineering software packages to perform power systems analyses
  • Ability to use AutoCAD.
  • Ability to complete small projects and complex tasks with a high level of accuracy based on general direction and minimal oversight from project manager
  • Must work cooperatively with others
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills
  • Must follow direction well
  • Must adhere to company policies
  • Must possess an NC driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Must pass random drug screening tests.

Purpose:

To perform electrical testing tasks under the general supervision of an Electrical Testing Technician III.

Essential Duties:

  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Have a working knowledge of NFPA 70E regulations and correct use of PPE
  • Properly use and maintain basic tools as assigned by company.
  • Properly use and maintain company vehicles.
  • Properly use basic electrical test instruments (e.g. Multimeter, megohmmeter, soil resistivity test set, transformer turns ratio tester)
  • Properly use more complex electrical test instruments (e.g. protective relay test sets, primary current injection sets, battery impedance sets, circuit breaker time and travel sets, dc high potential sets, VLF sets).
  • Perform basic and more complex electrical tests with minimal supervision including:
    • MV Circuit Breaker Test
    • MV Cable Test
    • LV Circuit Breaker Test
    • Transformer Testing
    • MV Switchgear Testing
    • Substation Device Testing
    • Battery Test
    • Transformer Diagnostic Oil Sampling
    • CT & PT Test
  • Perform thermographic infrared inspections
  • Write thorough, complete, and accurate test reports
  • Assist Electrical Testing Technicians III, as directed.
  • Direct and mentor Electrical Testing Technicians I.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Three to seven years experience plus NETA Level II certification.
  • Ability to work efficiently with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate well with clients and co-workers
  • Ability to develop well-written reports
  • Must show proper respect to all clients
  • Must follow direction well
  • Must possess an NC driver’s license with a clean record
  • Must pass random drug screening tests

Minimum Educational Requirements: Electrical Project Engineers and Electrical Engineering Technicians are required to have obtained at least a BSEE from an accredited ABET program. All Electrical Testing Technicians must have at least an Associate’s Degree in an approved Electrical Engineering Technology program or Electrical Testing program. Experience in medium and high voltage equipment, testing, and analysis is a plus for all positions.
