ARC FLASH STUDIES |
|
An arc flash is a short circuit in the air between energized conductors. If the conductors can not resist the applied voltage or if the insulation between the conductors breaks down, the air becomes the conductor and an arc flash occurs. In a fraction of a second a blinding flash, intense heat, and a pressure wave are created.
An arc flash study is performed to determine the incident energy exposure to employees while working on or near electrical equipment. The analysis determines the level of personal protective equipment (PPE) required to work on or near electrical equipment. All recommendations comply with OSHA, NEC, and NFPA 70E requirements. |
